AA was the leader in equipment swaps on JFK-LAX/SFO until last spring when it retired the last of its maintenance-queen 767-200s that operated these routes. Frequently, you'd arrive at the airport to find that a domestic-F equipped 757 (with park-bench first class seats 40 inch pitch and almost no recline) was substituting for your somewhat-better 762.

For the past year, however, AA has ceased the equipment swaps. Maintenance issues will occasionally cause a cancellation, but with 13 daily LAX-JFK flights, there's usually another flight within an hour or two.
