Not a viable alternative. Not a great fan of US immigration/custom. And YVR-SEA-YVR is not exactly cheap either. Might as well do YYC-LHR-YYC, brand new 787.

+1. Agree. YVR BA ground staff is pretty good, and the YVR lounge staff are amongst the best in BA network. ^
