Let's see. Where shall we begin.
Broken hip, broken pelvis (two seperate fracture), internal bleeding, 4 hairline spine fractures, completely crushed wrist which required a complete rebuild with cadaver bones and metal and resulted in a loss of 50% use.
Total hospital time was 3 months. Hip to neck brace for 6 months.
Yup. Just a few broken bones. Can't possibly be as bad as dying.

Just broken bones can be an understatement. Lots of people die from hip fractures or they decline so much that they die.
There are so many variables to a crash. In hindsight, they could have waited for the airstairs and let people deplane with their luggage. However, there have been catastrophic crashes involving skidding off the runway so an emergency evacuation is clearly the way to go (but jumping off from a height might not be)
