I was actually referring to a beach shy of Nai Thon but north of Layan. I don't know what it's called in Thai (can't seem to find reference to it) but in English it goes by Banana Beach.
There is one plastic-tables-on-the-sand restaurant and no other facilities. It requires a trail walk downhill from the meager hilly roadside shoulder parking and has little shade in the afternoon.
Wow, that does look like a nice spot. And not too far away, really. I was surprised to find that even the last bit of bangtao drops off considerably in terms of development and popularity. I walked the length of it one day and had about the last mile more or less to myself.
According to a couple sites, the beach you are referring to goes by Hat Hin Kluay.
