Alaska is going to be killed sooner or later. Maybe not this year but 20 years from now, we will see Alaska Airlines as a distant memory, like Braniff, Western, TWA, etc.
Could be Delta, could be American, but it will be somebody. Could be Hawaiian, trying to be bigger to avoid being swallowed up, but even a combined Alaska/Hawaiian could be taken over.
If American does take over Alaska, Alaska's name should be used.....pipe dream. Actually, the big airlines in the U.S. should be named United (as it is, even though it's really Continental), TWA (headquartered at DFW), and Northwest (or possibly Pan Am). Delta is a weak name.
An airline thats strong and making money is a pretty difficult target. Theres no telling what airlines will be around in 20 years. All it takes is a little bit of bad PR to crush an airline. Just ask TWA and Pan Am which is why neither one of those 2 names are even used today. Probably one of the only reasons UA and AA and their names survived 9/11 was all the money the government gave them to keep them running
