No matter how you check in, you WILL have to show your passport to do the check in. Then you will have to show your passport at security/passport control, and then again before boarding...

Anyone can put in a number into a keyboard - and errors do happen there - but humans actually do facial recognition and passport viewing/scanning several times before boarding. No headaches if you are a legitimate traveller...
