After the conveyor belt you proceed through an archway into the boarding pass check prior to security.
If you're brisk, you could probably do a U-Turn before the archway and exit back into the terminal, then re-enter later as if you've got carry on only.
If you don't want to chance all that you can drop your bags at baggage storage: It's on the domestic arrivals level, by the baggage carousels.
