me and my friend arrived to the hotel and on our first day he got sick and had to be rushed to the hospital and they performed emergency surgery. All unexpected. Doctors needed us to stay in singapore for at least a few days until they make sure everything went well. Needless to say all the money (and then some) that we planned for this little 2 day visit went for hospital bills and flight changes. I ask the hotel to extend the stay and they offered me a grand total of 10% discount due to extreme emergency situation. apparently thats the best they can do. hotel is not nearly full. they offered me a $40 discount off $400 rate when I could book a worldwide rate online for $340. What a slap in a face.
Maybe my expectations are too much, but I somehow I expected more help and understanding from Hyatt, especially in emergency life threatening situation.
guess not.
This is unfortunate and I hope your friend is ok. I'm not sure the hotel owes you anything though. It is interesting that in a situation like this your point of view is that hotel is being greedy or uncaring. Looking at this objectively I could say wow, the hotel offered you a discount to allow you to continue to stay in their wonderful hotel and allow your friend to recover.
Why do you focus on the price and being somehow cheated? Wasn't it worth it to you, at just about any price, to remain in the hotel in this circumstance?
Did they treat you and your friend well? Was the service great during your stay? Were they accommodating to your needs while staying at the hotel? That is what hotels should be focused on and not giving huge discounts in extreme situations. Of course its up to the hotel management and their individual policies but it sounds to me like they provided you with a good/great product while you were there.
