I hear ya! I have a co worker who spends way too much time at Walmart late at night. They actually do have some nice ties. Shirts, not so much! He checks AND books short connections.
My formula is 2+ hour connections and carry-on when going to work, 1- hour connections with checked bag when going home. Ain't been to Walmart at midnight yet.
I forget where it was.... Maybe Newport News? There is a Resdence Inn within walking distance of a Walmart. I got in late and nothing was open near by.. walked to Walmart and got a ribeye and can of green beans, can of mushrooms, Montreal seasoning and a bottle of wine. It was not very healthy, but it tunred out well...
