Funny how people keep missing the part where I state to find a SAFE exit. I'm not advocating that anyone jump out of a compromised exit.

Bottom line: The crew nor the fire department know know the significance of the damage. I'm not waiting around for fuel to leak onto hot brakes. Aircraft tires are highly flammable as well (lesson learned from Valujet). The vast majority of accidents happen due to crew error. If they can't fly the plane then why should I trust them to get me off the plane safely? The first words the Captain from one of the Southwest crashes was "well, there goes my career"; hardly seemed to be worried about anyone else.
