The MD80 is a fantastic, reliable, and comfortable (in my perspective with the 2x3 seating in back) aircraft that has an incredible safety record considering the number of flights they do each day and the fact they are still flying perfectly fine (with proper maintenance) and if it wasn't for the high fuel costs they could still be flying years down the road.
I like the MD-88. Too bad the design was not updated with new engines as a MD-100.

The women and children nonsense is for the days of the ship. There, the ship took a few hours or at least half an hour to sink. The walkway was wide. With an airplane, everyone gets off as fast as possible. If there is a child that needs help, the closest passenger helps. All the passengers should not wait for the children to squeeze past and exit first, followed by women, followed by frequent flyer members with elite status, followed by small men, etc., etc.
