SPG do seem for some reason to offer a good deal on points conversion to miles. Must cost them a fair amount...
This is YMMY, of course, but transferring SPG to airline programs for J/F redemption usually works out better than redeeming them for hotels. I try not to use points for Starwood hotels unless I can get 2.5 cents per point.
With Hyatt, though, using points for hotels usually works out better although Points+Cash can be even more valuable because you can use DSU and get stay/night credits.
