I do not believe that is the case. A ticket can certainly be re-validated by the carrier and the original ticket number is retained. And an ETKT and be re-synchronized to a PNR. But re-issuance of a ticket would require a new valid ticket and a void old one. Hence, a new ticket number.

What usually happens when you buy up in response to an offer is an additional collection (labeled "Premium Seating" on your credit card statement) and accommodation in a higher cabin, but no re-issuance of or changes to ticket coupons.
