Nope. Targeted marketing is a huge industry. Tesco Clubcard being one of the most well known examples. You buy lots of fish, they send you money-off vouchers for chips.
It may have been mentioned elsewhere, I didn't read every page of the thread - but could BA be trying to free up cabin space to try to sell more transatlantic or other long haul flights into Europe via London? Might be a stretch but if someone in NY wants JFK to FCO, if JFK-LHR has availability but LHR/LGW-FCO is full then they can't sell the entire flight. Just a thought
Then raise the prices on Lhr-fco so it's not full. Not rocket science.
Revenue management at Ba are terrible, flights with I class fares on sale 2 months before are regularly sold out even at 7 days. It takes 4 I class fares to offset a single J class fare, and that's ignoring the ex-EI I class fares. Sell 1 fewer I class seat and sell an R class instead.
However with continuous sales in J for £1300 return tatl, and under £2k return to oz, they clearly don't want the high revenue customers long haul.
