Just to update. I went with the $96 Louis Tavern day room. Very little sound insulation between rooms, but it worked out well for the connection. And, the convenience of not dealing with immigrations/customs as well as transport was worth it.

If anyone is considering this, I'd also advice that booking in advance via Hotels.com saved me $40 vs the walk-up rates shown when I checked in. Also, they take a USD $10 deposit for the room key in cash and will refund it when you checkout and give the key back.
