Did you get the same message along the lines of: "No pudimos comunicarnos con tu banco"?
Yes I did, in Spanish and English. The transaction was seemingly going along well, including accepting bank fees etc. Then that message and then it spat out my card, no receipt and no cash. Right back to the start screen and so I tried again.
I was in a long line of people waiting for the machine.
This happened at an HSBC ATM today in Tulum. I will be keeping a close eye on my account.
