A UA Upgrade Should Carry to: AC / LH* / LX / SN / OS / NH

This has been my understanding and my experience, provided the upgraded had already been confirmed.
I believe UA will preserve the upgraded ticket within their JOINT VENTURE / ATI partners (all of which happen to be *A). However, rumor is that some are nastier than others at accepting an upgraded ticket (I'm looking at you, LH ಠ_ಠ ) even though the policy is to accept the upgraded ticket.

So said another way, the policy - as I understand it - is that one's upgrade will be should be preserved on:
The A++ JV with:
AirCanada (AC)
Lufthansa Group (LH/LX/SN/OS)*

As well as ANA (NH) who UA works with under a JV for the Pacific

*assuming LH decides to follow the rules and accept the ticket.
Now, that's not to say UA would not re-acomodate a passenger in the same (upgraded) cabin on other carriers, it's just that it's not the default policy.
