Airline policy giving an excuse for illness?

what is airline policy for delaying flights due to illness(contagious). i have flown tatl at times with a norovirus, pneumonia, a bacterial infection. all were easily diagnosed. all are highly contagious. if i call the airline and tell them i am stuck here in venice with a norovirus, do they say just come on, or do they say you must sit until you get doctor permission to fly?
