After doing some research seems that do-your-own like the one described here is a real alternative to several hundred dollar case.[/QUOTE]

I agree with this link!

Personally I've wrapped bottles up in towels and places them centrally in my checked luggage and they have been fine. Professionally (ok airport retail ) I've packed so many boxes of wine for checking-in I've lost count! Bubble wrap works well if you can get it. The smaller bubble verson will do the job. IMO the big bubble ones are overkill and take up too much space. Foam like the stuff in the article would be great too! The most important part is to not have any bottle loose or wiggleling around. This will ensure that if the box/suitcase gets bumped around nothing inside is budging.

A small carry-on would work for 8 bottles but if you wanted to go the box route I suggest finding a box that carried 6 bottles of champagne or scotch or something that is a bit bigger than your standard 6-bottom wine box. The dividers are good but not necessary if the packing is done correctly (fill any and every crevice).

I worked at my store for a few years and didn't hear of any negative feedback with the packaging. I can't be 100% sure but we had enough repeat customers that they would have let us know!
