For years, flying into FLL has been easier/faster than flying into MIA for almost all So. Fla. destinations. This latest toll problem just tips the scales further.

My problem is that I like to use Avios points for my trips, and there's obviously far more AA flights into MIA than into FLL. So I'm guessing I'll have to play the game again sometime this year. Hopefully, by then, there will be a comprehensive "how to" guide to avoid the toll surcharges. It does seem like getting your own Sunpass would be a reasonable option. I've got a bad feeling that problems (like double-billing) will arise from this option, too, though.

What we really need is a Florida law saying that car rental customers get to pay what the locals pay plus a $1/day administrative charge for each day they use their car's transponder. Maybe some day. I'm assuming this nonsense will give tourism in Miami a black eye.
