I believe those are there to enable them to use several of those gates as "mixed" Schengen and non-Schengen gates. When they need more Schengen gates they close the sliding glass doors and open a corridor from the Schengen area.

I know this particularly because I was once accidentally shut in during this conversion process while waiting for a non-Schengen flight at a different gate. Had to go out through the corridor and back in through passport control.
