I've heard different stories at the front desk in LGW about this, so I see this as being a case of accepting whatever happens on the day. However in your case, on an IB code, I suspect you were correctly admitted, as indeed you would have under a BA code. I say that with a low level of confidence and I've no idea where the guest bit fits in either.
