I'm a tad surprised you've not witnessed this before because it seems fairly common. Tragically, it's necessary because many people try to stand right by the door for a quick exit. Without some verbal encouragement to MOVE RIGHT DARN INSIDE very few would willingly shuffle down the aisle and either it would take for ever to load the bus fully or it would leave half-empty. I agree it's not a premium experience but it's the fault of the cattle as much as the guys with the cattle prod. Not you, obviously, nor me, it's the other pax I'm talking about.

Watch people boarding the buses and you can see exactly why it's needed. You will see someone rush to be first through the gate and first onto the bus where they will insist on standing right by the door blocking other people from getting on.
