I haven't been that impressed with Qatar either. I find their 5 star marketing a little counter-productive in terms of expectations and experience, but more specifically:
- QR penny pinch too, I have often found (and more often than with BA) that my menu choice is not available.
- the DOH lounge is physically impressive, but also huge and a bit cold. The food and beverage options are limited. For the size of the lounge they only have two places to get a proper bite and they are a bit of a hike and I can see that many passengers will just give up. The queues for the sandwich bar can be ridiculous.
- staff can be good, but can also seem a little robotic.
