The grass isn't always greener.....
Well after many years of loyally flying BA and with QR joining OW I decided to take the plunge and move some of my eastwards flying to Qatar. I was getting fed up with the chop chop chopping of the BA CW product and was really impressed with the first few flights I made with Qatar which were on it's 777's. Throw in BA tier points and Avios - winner!
I think I can now officially say - Qatar just doesn't cut it.
Crew - lovely. Lounges - fab. Onboard catering - better than BA F. Seating - total lottery and unpredictable.
At the end of the day my main priority on a long haul flight is sleep. So the only flights I have booked on QR instead of BA have been on routes and flights where they offer a flat bed product which is their 777's, 787's, A350's, all J A319's and I believe some A330-200's.
I am currently awaiting to board my DOH-FRA flight which was due to be on a new A350 - direct aisle access and flat bed LOVELY. The day before yesterday they subbed it to an A330-300 - one of their oldest products with angle flat seating. Not happy, but I guess sometimes these things happen.
The problem I have with Qatar is, it doesn't seem to be 'sometimes'. This is now my THIRD consecutive trip with Qatar where my aircraft has changed from a new product to a dreadful outdated one. My last trip I was due to fly on an A380 to LHR. It was switched to an A340-600 again with the angled (non) beds. The flight before that was booked on a 777. Rocked up to the gate to find an A330 parked below.
Don't get me wrong - i've had BA switch their aircraft of me as well. But I have always ended up in a fully flat bed of some sort regardless of aircraft type.
Sometimes I detest BA and their penny pinching ways and plastic containers of fruit for breakfast. But for me right now I wish I was getting on a BA aircraft instead of the Qatar one i'm about to board. Better the devil you know sometimes.....
