Do you have United status? Economy Plus in UA is more comfortable than LH Y seats.

Are you going out of season? If so, UA58 is usually fairly empty so it's possible to score an empty row.

I would choose UA anyway since I hate the LH 747-8 Y seats and A380 is not that much better. But going reverse to the USA, I would go directly to LAX to avoid connection in the US.
