Research so far seems to suggest this should be OK, as we shouldn't have to get baggage back or clear customs, going from domestic to international (Canada).
Is that right? It is the only option on Delta, apart from overnight in Seattle. It comes up as a search result, so I guess it must be OK?
(Main other option is with Alaska but that arrives much later and would be hard).
Many thanks, I would never book this type of connection normally, I am just tempted by the timings.
You should be fine with this connection. In SEA, domestic and international flights use the same terminal... and you only need to clear customs/immigration when arriving from an international airport into the USA. As long as nothing is delayed, you should be able to comfortably make this connection.
If you're returning via Seattle, you should be fine as well - Canadian airports have something called preclearance, so you'll clear US immigration in Calgary and your flight arrival will be treated as domestic in Seattle. (Make sure your visa/ESTA is valid for multiple entries, though, of course; the US doesn't have the concept of sterile transit areas.)
