I would never do a standard award SFO-Hawaii but I would do a saver F award (and have) which would be 240K miles for 3 round trips vs 540K for standard. That $1200x3=$3600 will buy a lot of fun in the islands and if you have the miles to burn anyways, why not. Forget the people who say it is a sin to do an award vs $1200. Just look at what your expenses would be for vacation fun and determine if the $3600 would be better used for some fun instead of just the transportation to/from the fun. But yes, wait until you see saver awards, they will open up and you may have to be a little flexible in your dates to get them.
