Expedia is NOT a good site to use in Australia.
As for where you change in Asia, you could also go via Bangkok (like I am next week) or Hong Kong, there are some other places too but I'm too lazy to look them up.
You have a long, long time before your trip, so take the time to read again the very good advice that people here have given you, keep looking at fares and buy one when it's cheap.
