I don't see any contradiction . More people fly because it's cheaper. It mightn't be a case of paying a little more or paying a little less, but of flying or not flying at all for some folk. Especially when multiplying by family members etc.


Then they pay the price upfront but they don't know how uncomfortable the flight was going to be until after.

By the time it comes to pay again the memory of discomfort has receded.

You have to fly pretty frequently before you figure out the value of paying more vs the possibility /probability of an uncomfortable few hours.
