What the heck ever happened to Moore's Law?

My 13.3" 3.7 lb Dell came to the end of its lease and I was offered either:
"equivalent" machine, 14" screen, a whopping 4.7 lb and larger in H/W/D, or
"light" version (no DVD drive, fewer external ports) with a 12" screen and 3 lb.

I took the light version, although I need an external disk reader and USB hub for the same functionality. My back is grateful. My eyes, not as much.
