I was going through a box of old photos to see which if any I should scan and upload to my website, when I came across a collection of prints given to me some years ago when I was working out on the Aleutian chain in Alaska. They're pictures taken in the village of Akutan (the next island east from Unalaska/Dutch Harbor) between around 1912 and 1920, showing the whaling station that once occupied the head of the bay, along with some scenes of village life.

Fascinating if occasionally grisly, but I thought FTers might find them interesting. For what it's worth, there's basically no trace of the processing plant remaining today, just a bunch of whale bones lying in the tundra.
