Photos found in a box - Akutan, Alaska ca. 1915

I was going through a box of old photos to see which if any I should scan and upload to my website, when I came across a collection of prints given to me some years ago when I was working out on the Aleutian chain in Alaska. They're pictures taken in the village of Akutan (the next island east from Unalaska/Dutch Harbor) between around 1912 and 1920, showing the whaling station that once occupied the head of the bay, along with some scenes of village life. http://gardyloo.us/Akutan.htm

Fascinating if occasionally grisly, but I thought FTers might find them interesting. For what it's worth, there's basically no trace of the processing plant remaining today, just a bunch of whale bones lying in the tundra.
