I had this happen on a revenue flight where Sunwing was significantly delayed. As the SE, I called the Concierge on behalf of my colleagues who were going to misconnect.
Had to pay a change fee to get them on a later AC flight.
Not sure how they would treat an AE ticket, but if you are gong to misconnect, I'd suggest calling ahead rather than just showing up at the AC counter saying "oops it was Sunwing's fault".
If the misconnect is certain, yes I will call ahead. I'm not sure if the conceierge can help on an AE ticket? I guess I will start there and see. And yes I expect they would have to pay at least a change fee.
It is a bit dicier if they land on time or close to on-time. I don't want to change their tickets when they could have made the flight. I'll be tracking their flight and will make sure I'm available to help with getting through to AE/AC at the airport, if needed.
The good news is that AE availability for a rebook looks pretty good. My son is ok with a priority reward, and the other 3 are on market fares that look to be the same amount, so should be re bookable. That might be an advantage of market fares vs classic, as there are no classic available.
