I'm sure it's a tax issue. But why would that be different based on address of the credit card, versus address of the ticketed passenger?
I understand each country has different taxes. For example, international tickets are nearly always cheaper out of Canada than the USA, while domestic tickets to the USA are typically cheaper if I fly out of Buffalo.
Here's the thing - if I go to AA.com and use my AA profile, it knows I'm Canadian, flying out of Canada. But if I want to use a US credit card, it bills me in US dollars. If I want to use a Canadian credit card, nothing has changed about my profile, but it bills me the inflated rate.
I just did a side by side comparison - the culprit is "US Transportation Tax." $45.80 for Canadian credit card, $7 for a US credit card. But again - why is that based on the billing address of the card?
Time to go find a US billing address.
