What difference does it make vs if he collected the bag at LHR and re-checked it there for his MAN journey and then carried onto DUB? We have all left bags in places from time to time when we are going somewhere else only for part of the day. At no point is the bag travelling without him. In the paranoid US airline industry they don't even bother with this "bag must not travel without the pax" thing.

If it's a real security issue what is to stop someone buying all of the sectors individually and doing exactly the same thing with the bags? I don't buy this at all.

Personally I find the suggestion that the check in agent could get fired to be a bit far fetched.

If it really was that much of a security risk then there is clearly a serious security flaw in BA systems and the authorities need to be alerted. If not then a bit of growing up is probably in order.
