The Ibis is a very basic but adequate hotel for an overnight stay. The problem is that it costs twice what it would if it wasn't an airport hotel. As noted, it's a 500m poorly signed hike from the terminal. There is no shuttle. There is no desk staff after 10pm and you have to use your booking credit card (or booking number ?) IIRC to get in the front door. You may have a luggage trolley one way but it will be pot luck coming back. MacDonald's is nearby if you want food.
I have had to stay there several times for dawn flights since QF's nasty early "retimings" to Asia via SYD, but thankfully I won't be using them for those flights anymore and will be departing at a more civil hour.
In other parts of the world there are numerous hotels near airports with shuttles. Melbourne is lacking in that regard.
