+1 for Ibis Budget

[QUOTE=og;24383460]The MEL Ibis budget is perfectly satisfactory. It's clean, comfortable ( so long as you gave your eyes closed ) and " good value ". It's just like JetStar - have low expectations and you'll be pleasantly satisfied. Good enough for somewhere to sleep ( and nothing much else ).[/)

Fully agree. If you're arriving on QF10 at 9:35pm and leaving pretty smartly the next morning, all you'll want is a good clean bed and associated conveniences. You won't have the time to enjoy the more luxurious accoutrements of Holiday Inn or Rydges, whoops, Park Royal. Just expect a smaller room, small TV, no wifi, no tea/coffee (but plenty of vending machines and perhaps a self-service tea/coffee in lobby area?). You'll save yourself $100 or so, more if you're an Accor Advantage member, and if you're like me, all you'll want to do in the morning is get up quick and head over for breakfast, barista coffee, newspapers etc. at whichever lounge you can access. Same applies for Ibis Budget at SYD and AKL (although these usually require shuttle -- however I have walked with carry-on).

Only thing I don't like about MEL Ibis Budget is that it is an easy enough walk, but at night you feel like you're wandering down a rather dark and secluded bush pathway, and as with the other hotels, you have to hope it's not raining.
