Merely giving an example of getting Silver by taking cheap (!) CE flights. Pulling numbers out of a hat, if you like. It's more like 8 x £650 if you're going for the fully flexible tickets. We can all argue about what's typical and point to the fact that you can get Gold for less than £2k.
BTW I've done the 8 x CE route for Silver many times for both me and Mrs srbrenna. That's £5,600 out of my own pocket.
