A complete myth.
Automatic Train Operation is something of a misnomer on the London Underground. A driver is still required for many of the functions of driving the train. It would be like saying all an airline pilot does is sit with a cuppa for 9 hours, and only flies for one.
It doesn't help that train driving is still seen as a blue-collar job, despite being a safety-critical post with considerable systems management responsibilities.
