I think you're supposed to use your own income if you're over 21. That said, the right perspective should probably be that DC was an extremely lucky happenstance. Worst case is that we go back to only having chip and signature cards, which are okay except for a very small set of exceptions the vast majority of travelers won't run into. Doesn't mean losing the card won't suck though.
