Actually, if I don't upgrade, I will fly on AA where I have status. On AA the cost of the ticket is $277, the itinerary isn't quite as good as the United option, but I will have decent seats and pre-boarding. And free baggage. I could go either way really. It's my wife's birthday, though, so I was thinking of the f class as a birthday perk.
