Take this advise! ^
OP: If you like to gamble - go for it (know your limits). Always use your players card and the comps will come with the right amount of play. Do you currently gamble? Reading books about gaming is different than doing it.
The big question is - how much $ are you planning to gamble? What games? Where?
Do you plan to come to LAS with $1,000 to risk? Or is it $10,000 or more? That makes a big difference.
There is some very good advice on this thread. Soccerdad1995, gengar and SgtRyan gave great advise. The fact is casinos are just like any other business - to make $$$ - and they do.
Overall - paying for a room is far cheaper than gaming for a comp. You could stay at the Palace Station for $19.00 a night, or the Wynn for $250.00.
The odds are it is cheaper to simply book a room.
Take the advise given above (very good) by the other posters and enjoy your visit to Las Vegas.
Safe and happy travels.
