7 weeks seem long to get a bag fixed.
Wow, I didn't know those baggage offices have new (I guess) bags on-hand to hand them out to replace broken ones.
The advice I got from them is buy something cheap and replaceable. I have been using the mid-range ones (Delsey, Samsonite and Travelpro) and they hold up OK. I just can't see myself buying a $600 bag that can be broken/stolen -- and the bag itself becomes the target of crime.
I still don't quite understand the "lifetime warranty" offered by the high end manufacturers. My gate-checked Tumi got the zipper pulled off this week. I guess I will find out when I try to get it fixed.
