If you want to get the most value just book an intra-Alaska flight. It is only 7.5k points. You can fly to Adak, which is an island in the Aleutian chain. $700 ticket for 7.5k points equals 10 cents per mile.
I have never been to Alaska, so value any advice. I won't have time this summer, but may plan a grand tour in the following year or two. First priority is to visit as many National Parks as we are able, realizing some (most) are not accessible by car. Now I just need to figure out how to convince my wife to get on a bush plane to fill my bucket list items.
