My point wasn't that. The drivers actually do get to keep all of the money you pay them (non-surge, at least). My point was that Uber itself also benefits from this arrangement.
Tangent:
-getting taxis the old fashioned way is really hard these days in the morning, during lunch, and in the evening
-because 90% of the cabs with green signs are actually en route to taxi app calls
-since Uber exists outside of that ecosystem, I can't really fault it directly, but the overall trend is disturbing
