This is generally the way I treat it. For a quick short-haul I'll probably have a snack in the lounge but for a long haul I'll eat something in the lounge beforehand followed by maybe a starter on the plane if it sounds nice. Fortunately for me I generally like most food but don't have a sweet tooth and hate most junk food.
I wish I travelled as much as I do now when I was younger, and had lounge access, J travel etc. I'd have made much better use of the free booze. Nowadays it just gives me a headache.
