Recently a few times at the check in counter LAN staff have flipped over the luggage tag and asked me to sign off. Asked why and told it is because my luggage is fragile. (1) I have a strong Samsonite hard shell – no way it is fragile. And (2) the back of the tag actually states “Recibido Dañado” with check boxes for them to indicate what damage exists yet none of the boxes are checked off. What's up with that?
I had the same experience with Avianca at PIU about 1.5 years ago.
