Do people have any insight into whether the free-night certs -- whether from signup (cat 4) or anniversaries (cat 5) -- can be used for a stay where the cardholder is not present? The DW & I each have a soon-expiring cert we'd like to let a family member use. I know how to do this with a regular award stay on points, but am not aware whether the rules are different for free-night certs.

(And yes, I did follow my own advice & try to search in the thread, as well as read back a couple pages. Didn't find any guidance. If I get useful input, I promise to update the wiki.)
