1) If you miss a segment on a ticket (award or not), the rest of the ticket will be cancelled.
2) Unlikely, especially since DL doesn't permit changes to award tickets within 72 hours of departure and most European carriers (such as VS) don't permit you to change to an earlier flight without paying fees and the fare difference unless you have a FULL Y or FULL J fare.
