Almost all airlines and online travel agencies sell a variety of tickets with different terms and conditions for changes and cancellations. Many sell restricted or non changeable/refundable tickets.

These terms are quite clearly displayed when purchasing your ticket, perhaps in future you should read them better or buy full fare non-discounted tickets. Expect to pay between 5 and 10 times more however.
